Thanksgiving Day

Thursday, November 23, 2006 Happy Thanksgiving!
We’re still enjoying every second we have with the babe. She is doing so much more by the minute. She just rolled over for the first time minutes ago, she is trying to do some speech mimicking and really playing with her hands as if to figure out the signing thing. We see how big the holiday period is here, just heard that the kids are already out of school for Christmas… we were warned that they completely shut-down and are seeing such. This means for us- that if we aren’t through the process now that we probably won’t see her home until January. Of course I am hoping and praying for a miraculous completion while were here! Miss being with family on a day like today but it won’t be complete until the babe comes home!!! Loves!

Well, here we are already at day 5 of our visit! Wow, time flies by!! We had a blast with the babe during bath time. She is just like mommy and loves the water. People continue to stop and tell us how gorgeous she is. Today she is dressed in the cutest little snowman outfit and now sound asleep with a full belly. Hope she comes home to meet you all VERY SOON!! You are each sure to fall in love with her instantly!

Ahhh….today I am feeling much better; thank goodness! I am so grateful h was here to give the babe all she needed. Aside from feeling so icky, it was torture not being able to love on the babe. Definitely didn’t want to give her any cooties. Fortunately I slept most of the day making it easier. It is just so wonderful to be here with her. I continue to be amazed at how much she has grown and how she giggles, well…really everything about her! (smile). With her being so responsive, we are both anticipating this being the most challenging of all our trips to leave her here. We are doing our best to stay present in each moment as to not waste any of our precious time together.

The weather here is turning a bit cold. It has been very windy the last two days. The window in our room leaks so it has been a bit chilly. We requested a portable heater today as the hotel does not have any heat (don’t ask me why!?!). Next trip it may be smart to request a room that does not have such big windows…either that or just make sure the window does not leak!

Everyone at the hotel has been making over the babe – they just can’t get over how much she has grown since Labor Day. Everyone remembers her when she was a mere 6 pounds. Now she has to be at least 12 pounds! It is fun to see everyone’s responses. She is definitely the most beautiful baby here! We might be a little biased, but, I would bet lots of other people would agree! Everyone keeps saying she is going to have red hair. We think it is just because she does not have the typical black head of hair. They tend to say red and then point to h’s hair and say just like your tia. So, from our eyes that is not red but medium brown. We shall see….

Well, the babe is starting to wiggle around and wake up from her nap. H just left for the farmacia to get more formula. So, I m off to go cuddle with my bundle of joy…

Thanks for your continued support and love as we move through this amazing journey!

Today both the mama and the babe seem to be under the weather. J isn’t feeling real bad she is just sleeping more and eating less. I have been hanging out in the room and taking care of j, she is still just so easy. She is perfect and I am already starting to dread the Saturday pick up. I am optimistic that she will be heading home soon but I don’t want to leave her here any longer. Knowing she will not remember a time without us is carrying me through… and the opportunity to have been with her at 3 weeks of age was just awesome. She will turn 5 months just after we leave this time and then all prayers are for a December or early January pick up. Thanks for tuning into and supporting us through this journey, the joy and pain (though worth it) is, I am sure, the harbinger of what is yet to come!

Absolutely gorgeous!

Here we are again with the babe J. she once again makes my heart just leap, she has grown a ton over the last several weeks. She was a bit upset when Esperanza handed her on but she perked right up. My favorite sounds are now her giggles and gurgles! She has only been with us for an hour or so and we are already having a blast! Esperanza is smiley and loving with her, which we were worried about; the culture is so much more sober we were thinking she might not get a lot of that.
We brought her up to the room and unwrapped her layers to see that she truly is a chunk. She played and ate, then just as fast as she perked up she fell asleep. I was holding on to her and couldn’t believe how fast she went out. We took another black and white photo of her in hopes of adorning the bathroom wall with several of her and her growth. She is now lying beside me asleep; as gorgeous and content as ever.
I went out to get some basics and again passed several guerrillas, their guns as big as they are. Last night when we arrived we heard several loud booms; I hope they weren’t gunshots but I imagine they probably were… oh well, we’re safe inside, the weather is beautiful and we have a large patio for walking around.

looking to our trip coming up for thanksgiving. we hear "no news is good news" so the news must be grand. we are waiting to hear that dna testing has been done, one of the initial steps, then we enter the court world in Guatemala that brings baby j home. the process can take some time, of course we're in it for the long haul no matter. still being optomistic with a coming home date around Christmas but working on my heart not breaking if it takes longer. news to be posted after the 18th when we have her in our arms again!
